Sudden oak death is no longer a west coast, Bay Area problem only. While there are still thousands at risk in the greater Bay Area in California, sudden oak death has now been reportedly found in the United Kingdom as noted here: UK SOD.
Also Los Altos Hills is taking a pro active approach to assisting their citizens deal with Sudden Oak Death Syndrome by hosting Sudden Oak Death Blitz where residents will be able to have leaves tested for the disease. You can read more here.
