Need to get rid of Poison Oak?
Poison Oak, Toxicodendron pubescens, is a stubborn and irksome weed found all over the peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area. So named because it is often found growing under oak trees, it is very difficult to remove and unsightly. Unlike many wild plants which have beneficial and health promoting properties, poison oak poses a health hazard to most people (and a severe health risk to those with an allergy to it).
What can be done to remove Poison Oak from your property? How can your home, garden, or estate be free from this ecologically problematic weed?
At Evans Pest Management, we use a three stage process to eliminate this dangerous plant and to prevent its return. (We make use of the best personal protective equipment for our workers to minimize their exposure to the plant’s oils.)
Stage One
A selective herbicide is applied by hand to the woody tissue of the plant. This kills the roots, stems and leaves. Six weeks after the initial application, the poison oak dies completely.
Stage Two
The dead plants are removed by hand, with tools and even tractors, as needed. This requires significant manpower, but can be done very quickly in situations which are time sensitive.
Stage Three
Once the formerly poison oak infested area has been reduced to bare dirt by our labor efforts, the ground is ready for a preventative treatment. We use a carefully selected pre-emergence herbicide to prevent the return of poison oak and other weeds to the same area. You may then make use of the area in any way you like. (Ask us for help with re-landscaping too!)
