This service is done most often for California Coast Live Oak trees. But, most any tree will benefit from the following:
1. Root Collar Excavation
This means we remove the dirt from around the base of the tree 8 to 18 inches out and 6 to 24 inches down. Using an air spade, a tool which allows us to bring air into the root system, we remove dirt which may hold water close to the trunk facilitating rot. This helps the tree to breathe and prevents many fungi from growing.
2. Radial Trenching
Also using an air spade, we make trenches in the ground radiating out from the trunk of the tree like the spokes on a wheel. This brings more air into the root system of the tree which increases the speed of the tree’s metabolism and also helps us to incorporate soil amendments into the existing soil.
3. Soil Amendment
We blend a variety of organic matter, appropriate for the soil and tree in particular, into the ground under the canopy of the tree. We can determine very precisely how to do this by performing a soil test. Then we select the exact combination of organic and/or inorganic matter necessary to augment the soil for the optimal health of the tree.
4. Deep Root Fertilization
Using an injection system with up to 400 pounds of pressure per square inch, we dissolve fertilizer proper to your tree and soil in water and inject it 6 inches to four feet into the ground. This helps to stimulate and enhance the natural growth of the tree and can dramatically improve both the health and appearance of your tree.
